Let’s understand what challenges, barriers and prejudices exist within our profession and share our commitments to improve.

Diversifying our profession and supporting minority groups within our current and future professional community is the key to sustaining the future of our sector. Share your action plans or objectives to improve diversity publicly and become part of our collaborative diversity action network.

Commit to transforming diversity in the environment and sustainability profession today by filling out the form and becoming a partner of the Diverse Sustainability Initiative (DSI).

Please read the information below, but if you need any assistance before submitting your commitment, please contact us. We can provide support via email or arrange a call to give you more background on the DSI and answer any questions you may have.

How does it work?

Fill in the form on behalf of your organisation to have your public commitment added to our list of signatories. All you need to do is provide your name, email address, company name, and its objectives, targets or work plans that contribute to the aim of transforming diversity in the environment and sustainability profession or the environment sector. Please also have a copy of the company logo ready to share.

  • Once your commitment has been reviewed and approved by the Diverse Sustainability Officer via an initial phone call, it will be added to the partner section of this website. It will be promoted through the Diverse Sustainability Initiative (DSI) communications channels, gaining exposure for your commitment.
  • As a partner of the DSI, you will need to complete an annual partner survey to update us on the progress of your commitment. If you do not complete the partner survey, we will look to talk to you about your commitment and ability to continue as a DSI partner. Discretion will be applied for unforeseen circumstances.
  • Please only submit your request if you are passionate and dedicated to creating change and encouraging more diversity in the profession.
  • We support, connect and engage CEOs as well as HR & Equality, Diversity and Inclusion leads. Please ensure that your CEO/Director has capacity and can commit to the DSI before joining. We organise two virtual CEO meetings a year, alongside face-to-face meetings.

Example areas of work you could commit to

  1. HR review to ensure your recruitment and management practices improve engagement and reduce unconscious bias.
  2. Implementation of a mentor or buddy scheme for professionals who identify within minority groups.
  3. Diversity to be added to all risk registers and considered at the highest levels of management in your organisation.
  4. Remove names from application forms to reduce unconscious bias in recruitment.

  • Manage the network of DSI Partners and hold them accountable for the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) commitments that they pledge to the DSI.
  • Provide the opportunity for discussion and encourage action through bi-annual DSI meetings with Partners and Advocates.
  • Manage the DSI website and organise any related events and meetings.
  • Remove DSI partners from meetings and the DSI website if they do not complete the annual survey, or do not agree to the DSI Partner Guiding Principles.
  • Ensure that all Network Members sign up to the DSI Network Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure that all DSI Advocates sign up to the DSI Advocate Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of DSI Partners and Network Members and adhere to relevant data and privacy policies.
  • Share relevant resources and opportunities across the DSI Partners and Networks through a variety of communication channels.
  • Follow the ISEP Safeguarding Policy and ensure that the Diverse Sustainability Initiative responsible staff member at ISEP is trained appropriately.
  • Support individuals to raise any EDI-related whistleblowing concerns or complaints in the appropriate manner internally through their own organisation, and following relevant organisational policy and channels. If the organisation named through whistleblowing is a DSI Partner, ISEP will commit to raising this issue with the organisation directly as well.
  • Monitor and oversee communication channels and forums which bring together DSI Partners or Members.
  • Connect partners (with permission) where their mission or targets around EDI might be aligned in order to support them.

ISEP will not:

  • Provide consultancy to any DSI Partners on the subject of EDI.
  • Share any concerns or complaints raised by individuals if specifically requested not to, unless there is any risk of harm.
