Have your say about the barriers and difficulties that you face in the workplace, and how we can work together to resolve them.

Welcome to the People of Colour Network, an inclusive space for individuals identifying as People of Colour actively involved in sustainability, environmental roles, or within the profession. Our Network is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for open discussions on barriers, current concerns and innovative ideas that can be progressed through the Initiative.

In this space, authenticity is celebrated, and you are encouraged to express yourself freely. It’s a secure haven where you can voice any concerns without hesitation.

To join our Network, simply be actively engaged in a sustainability/environmental role or within the profession and identify as a Person of Colour. This includes individuals from Black or minority ethnic backgrounds. Your unique perspective and voice are valuable contributions to our collective journey towards a more diverse and inclusive profession.

What is the People of Colour Network?

Established in October 2021, this Network was born out of the industry statistics indicating a significant lack of racial diversity within our profession. Acknowledging the potential isolation experienced by People of Colour within the profession, ISEP took the initiative to create a dedicated Network. Our primary goal is to provide a space where People of Colour can freely voice their concerns and foster a supportive community within our professional landscape.

In this space, we celebrate diversity, encourage open dialogue and provide a safe space for sharing experiences, challenges and triumphs. Whether you are deeply rooted in the environmental sector or just starting your journey, our Network is here to amplify your voice, address barriers and collectively advance the cause of diversity and inclusion in our professions.

Sarah Mukherjee (MBE), ISEP’s CEO, is Chair of the Network and hosts the quarterly meetings.

Like many People of Colour, I have become increasingly aware that business networks are one of the routes to success used by the people who have been – and in many cases still are – in charge; somewhere that is a safe space to talk about both the challenges you face and the successes you gain, with people who can support your professional journey. The People of Colour Network is all of those things, and it’s my privilege to chair it.

Sarah Mukherjee (MBE)

CEO of ISEP

I am a sustainability specialist with experiences in the private and public sectors delivering environmental and social sustainability projects at a strategic, operational, and grassroots level to support values and purpose-driven change. I approach “sustainability” holistically as I believe environmental and social challenges are inherently intertwined.   I embody my collaborative and inclusive values in my work as I believe in working in partnership to achieve sustainable development. My approach to leadership is based on curiosity, connection and courage to allow space for my colleagues to flourish and develop within their roles and beyond. My core values are: connection, authenticity, and integrity. My values are the foundation in which I make any decisions, big or small.  My purpose is to support young people from minoritised backgrounds, specifically women including LGBTQIA+ women and AFAB (assigned female at birth) non-binary changemakers, find their passion for Sustainability and help them use their gifts towards creating a sustainable future that benefits everyone and not just the privileged few.

Beatrice is a sustainability and racial justice specialist who is a passionate advocate for anti-racism, decolonisation, equity and inclusive practices across all sectors. An avid public speaker and spoken work artist, Beatrice currently works as a project manager focusing on racial justice and Inclusion , and champions meaningful & often uncomfortable conversations, collaboration, practical commitments, actionable change and progress. Through her work, Beatrice supports different organisations to take an intersectional, decolonial, and holistic approach to anti-racism, and equitable and inclusive practice. She works to platform the myriad of voices and lived experiences of people of the global majority, ensure their value is recognised, and create representation in leadership and decision-making spaces in the sector. Beatrice believes systemic racism and injustice is deeply rooted in the social and environmental crisis and has researched how our education system deeply influences and perpetuates this, and the need for a new, decolonial, and reparative approach. Outside of her work, Beatrice works to display and platform the beauty of African culture, music , food and art. She mentors a group of young black students in her church, focusing on building their confidence, empowering them to realise their potential and purpose in Christ Jesus, and supporting them to overcome barriers they face.
